Intervention
The intervention of brachioplasty can be:
- Simple brachioplasty: it is performed in young patients, where the skin flaccidity is only shown on the inner part of the arms and it is not very visible. The intervention is usually simple with local anesthesia such as liposuction and the scars are almost non-existent.
- Brachioplasty with axillary and thoracic extension: it is carried out in older patients, where a “pendulum-type arm” is identified and said flaccidity extends towards the thoracic and submammary areas. In this second case, the surgery is performed through a T incision and the scar is located in the inner area of the arm.
Postoperatory
After surgery, bandages will be placed and medications will be prescribed to control pain and swelling in the first days after surgery.
The scar left by this surgery is often minimal, but it is impossible to reaffirm the entire arm without leaving a scar. However, it is quite possible that over time it will become less visible.
The longer the incision, the better the result of the surgery, since it allows after the removal of excess dermo-fatty tissue, a greater stretch of the skin to give the arm the desired appearance.
Although scars are not completely absent, with the help of a plastic surgeon, in the most extreme cases; they will fade over time and it is possible that in specific situations simple attention is required, just to work on the visibility of the brand.
In both cases, rest is required for a couple of weeks so that the patient can return to their usual activities and have stylized arms without excesses.
