Intervention
For the intervention of rhinoplasty, local or general anesthesia is used, depending on the complexity of the intervention, this will be at the decision of Dr. Franklin Peña with the anesthesiologist.
During the surgery, the patient will not feel any pain or discomfort in the face area.
Regarding the technique used in this surgery, can be divided into two major types: Open or closed rhinoplasty.
The first, open rhinoplasty, is performed with a minimal incision in the part of the skin located between the tip and the base of the nose; the bone structure is separated, and replaced with a small suture. The mark that results from this intervention is almost imperceptible, since it is achieved that it is very small.
Postoperatory
After the surgery, in the first 24 hours, the face may feel swollen, and certain discomfort in the nose, may also present the headache that must yield with medication. The first day it is recommended to remain lying down, in absolute rest with the head elevated (except to go to the bathroom).
You will notice swelling and bruising around the eyes reaching a maximum of 2 or 3 days.
Applying cold compresses can decrease the swelling. Most bruising will disappear in about two weeks (the swelling may disappear after two months).
It is normal that the first days after the surgery of the nose there is a slight bleeding. You should not blow your nose hard during the first week, more or less, until the tissues have healed.
Most rhinoplasty patients are well in two days, being able to return to daily activities, such as work or school in a week. However, high-intensity activities should not be done until a few weeks have passed. During week 2 and 3, avoid sunbathing directly and blows to the nose.
Contact lenses can also be used, in case of contact lenses you should be more careful. Dr. Franklin Peña will recommend several visits to follow the evolution of the scar. If you have any discomfort between visits or any doubt about what you should or should not do, it is advisable to contact him directly.
